Whatsapp has successfully replaced traditional text messaging for most smartphone owners through its amazing features and options. The service has become famous for enabling users the possibility to send and receive unlimited text messages, media files, and videos in a completely free manner.
Whatsapp works great on Android, iOS, Blackberry, Windows Phones and even on Symbian. In the case of tablets, especially if you want to install Whatsapp messenger on iPad, things are a little bit more complicated since it requires more work for you. You need to find and download Whatsapp IPA file, connect your iPad with iTunes through your computer and then to install the file. Afterwards, you will be able to enjoy the same services on your iOS tablet.
However, in order to make use of Whatsapp better, you need to learn a few tricks and tips. There are many hidden features in Whatsapp, and if you start using some of them, you will see how your Whatsapp experience will definitely enhance.
Here, I want to show you how you can add a Whatsapp widget to your Android’s lock screen so that you do not even need to unlock your device to see what is going on in Whatsapp. One simple thing to do on any device is go into Whatsapp’s Settings, then head over to Notifications and enable Pop-up Notifications. You can have pop-ups for an illuminated screen, when you are using your phone, but also for a switched off screen.
If you enable this, a new message notification will pop up once even if the screen is off, but it will remain on your lock screen next time you go to unlock your phone. In this way, you will also be able to trick the double checkmarks into appearing when you read the message. However, this happens only if you do not click on the message.
In the case of a Stock Android or a custom ROM that supports lockscreen widgets, you can quickly and easily add custom widgets, including Whatsapp, to your lock screen. Just head over to Settings > LockScreen and tick the box for Custom Widgets. Then lock your device’s screen and from the lockscreen, swipe to the side until you will see the + symbol.
Tap on it and select Whatsapp from the list. If you unlock your device from the lock screen with the Whatsapp widget installed, the next time you will unlock your device, the Whatsapp widget will appear as the default.
In case you are experiencing issues in getting the Whatsapp widget using the method described above, you may have an older Android version that does not support lock screen widgets. This means that you run a version bellow Android 4.2. Alternatively, you can just install an app like NiLS or Widget Locker, which are pretty good widget managers.
Keep in mind that enabling lockscreen widgets makes sensitive information visible from a locked device, so you should be very careful when deciding to add or show certain apps that might compromise your privacy. With Whatsapp added as a widget on your lockscreen, you risk letting your messages being seen by everybody who comes across your device.
